Mini Collection of 21st Centry Lady Victorian

In previous week in fashion history lesson, we have been studying on the Victorian era fashion and shows how fashion changes and interchanges from then and now. The task we have been given was to chose an image from the Victorian era, use it as your inspiration and start designing from it.
As for this task I have decided to create my self a mini mood board with words that stud out to me the most in the images. The reason for this because it helps me get an rough visual idea in my head what the design going to look like to be able to transfer it on paper.
From the Victorian era I was inspired by so many different things as you can see by looking at my mood board. My first idea that came a cross was a picture of a prostitute sitting on a chair from the Victorian time and just what she was wearing give me a whole new different idea.
The dress that she was wearing was quite loose, shows a little bit of exposed of her legs an her bust and the neck shape of her dress is a traditional sweet heart. From this, I was thinking about a symmetrical, sweet heart neck top and playing around with an idea of showing bit of skin but not too much.
Not only that, I was also interest by different parts of Victorian fashion for example like the bustle, crinoline, the boots sandle, the flap on top of the dress and the cape.

So within all of those inspiration it has given me an idea of designing a mini collection as I wanted to shows the complementary between each design and it will like all together a a collection and here it is.

My style for my design shows a modernity, simple but chic and very wearable at the same time. As you can see in the design I try not to be too ritual from what I take as inspiration because I like to change elements to it to make it modern and my style but also at the same time it still have the originality.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 1
The first look was inspired by the big puffy dresses and the crinoline in the mood board. A simple, sexy and close fitting top with a singles strap cross the shoulders, with a sweet heart neck and a puffy skirt and a stiletto heels to finish the look. On the look you can see where I take idea from the crinoline and use it as a little detail on the top.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 2
A V neck close fitting top with two straps with a touch of a crinoline detail round the waist. The idea of the skirt came from the Victorian blazer with flaps. I transfer this to an pencil with a detail of a flap of the left hand side.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 3
From the look two once again I have design a top with a sweet heart neck, three straps both shoulders and the neck inspiration came from the crinoline and two simple zips at the bottom to add modernity. A long skirt with puffy bottom was inspired by the big puff dress at the time to finish of the look.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 4
I have to say that I really love this oversize coat and again taking the inspiration of the big puffy dresses and changes to something completely into a different garment. Plus a simple pencil skirt with a slash on one knee.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 5
This look really shows my experiment with showing different parts of body. By taking the inspiration from the sweet heart dress from the mood board and a lady wearing a blazer with flaps and a hat, I have design a cock tail dress, with a single strap on the right, the flap on the left and a touch of a leotard look. the bottom of the skirt shows a little detail of skin which was  inspired from the crinoline.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 6
Look six is about combining the cape of crinoline together. The cape has a neck detailed strap, beautifully drape at the shoulders and a quarter length long at the back, again with two zips to shows modernity.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………...........
LOOK 7
Last look is a V neck loosing fitting top, with a strap detail on the shoulders which shows a little bit of skin and two zips. Finishing of the look with a knee high length pencil skirt with another strap detail and both sides.

Photos behind the progress

I also started designing which sort of accessories would go best with the design.

The progress went from having face features to non face feature as I feel it takes the attention away from the design.

 Bike Show

Before visiting the bike show gallery I had my doubts on

how interesting the show is going to be because I am

not a big fan of sport or any thing a long side that type.
But however I couldn't be more wrong as the place
was filled with many different elements which includes
a combinations of art, music and modern day technology.

I really have to give it up to how the place is set out
and how inspiring it was for me as it’s given me a visual
ideas of what my fashion show is going to be like, if
or when I become a fashion designer.

As I was looking around the room, I’d imaging my self being a model
walking round the exhibit fiercely (it has to be done),I began to get
more and more into the show and look at the pieces that has been put
together closely, how well is made and the detail of each individual bikes it was amazing! so many cool bike that I never though it could be done.

Overall, I would strongly recommend this exhibit to everyone because you never know what you going to find even if you don’t like it you still got to give it a chance because it might be a new discovery or an inspiration that leads you to many different things that you never though of doing in the future.

Town Hall Gallery

Visiting the Town Hall exhibit was a completely different experience
as it cover more stuff on history of Barnsley which shows how much
things has changed and shows people ways of living during the days.

As a former of comprehensive school student, I was very fascinated in studying History, learning about different cultures around the world and what it was like in the past . Even though the lesson wasn't my strongest point because I am not very academic wise, I still appreciate the lesson and all new things that I have learnt from them.

The exhibit includes the way of individual lives, where they lived, and
what jobs they do. Plus a real life objects of equipment, tools, clothing and many other elements that was used back in the days and for me it was very realistic and interesting as it really shows gives me an image what it was like back then. The most parts that I enjoy about the show was the little corner that I made into a cinema room and the clips that was played shows individual stories of what their lives was like.

I would strongly recommended people of all ages to go and visit. Especially teens as nowadays it is hard for them to get involved in history and learning what it was like before. All of the new technologies involved in the modern day distracts them from the past and makes them forget. If it was not for them doing what they are did in the past, we wouldn't have all these things or an environment like this to live in. The exhibition would also be suitable for families to teach children about local history and make them appreciate as much as others do.

Barnsley university campus degree show

The experience from the degree shows gives me a view on what I can progress on from art and design course. The show includes lots of unique work by individual student from the start to a finished products. The part that really interested me was their inspiration, how they got started and how they translate an ideas from their minds into reality. I was familiar with the technique and the medias that some of the students have used as I have came across it before, for example using the puff binding, screen printing, hand sewing, 3D making and many more.

The show really give an inspiration and motivation of what I want to progress on next year which is fashion and clothing design. Overall, I would recommended the show to everyone especially if you are in your first year of college even if it something you might not want to do in the future, but it still might be a good way to explore things that is not in your comfort zone plus you never it could be something new that you never discover before.

Cooper Gallery

In my opinion Cooper gallery has to be one of my top 3 best gallery experiences yet! This is because I found something that truly inspired and made me want to stay there and look at the work all day long. Even though it’s a small exhibition, never underestimate it. The place was filled with lovely people which made me feel very welcome and most importantly to me, it was the place of true art.

The thing that really captured my eye was the sensational fashion illustration that was hanging on the wall waiting for it to be seen by me and that very moment it was the most powerful thing I have ever seen. I can just sit there and stare at it all day, it sounds exaggerated but it’s true!

As I was looking at the artwork of many different artists a lady in the exhibit came over to me and said “if you want to ask any question feel free to ask”, so I did straight away. I asked about the fashion piece; who it was by and what inspired her. Her name was Shelia Graham.

One of her paintings includes a ballerina dressed in a pink tutu. She told me her inspiration was visiting the royal ballet rehearsal and someone asked her if she would draw something. Using the experience that she had she translated it into a painting and the result was perfect.

Another piece I also liked was one of the works had three small different fabric swatches which really showed how they wanted to represent their work, what the design would look or feel like.

Finally, I would definitely recommend this gallery to everyone as I feel that it would be nice to explore something new and different and if you ever need to be inspired The Cooper galley is the place!
